Mr Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, honourable Minister of State, Ministry of Shipping, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, was born in 1970  in a respectable family at his native village  Dhontola of Dinajpur, a north-western district of Bangladesh. His father Abdur Rouf Chowdhury,  one of the prominent organisers of the Liberation War, was a  renowned politician and a dedicated social worker.  Mr Rouf was elected as the Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-1 constituency in 1996 and later he was entrusted with the portfolio of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications as the Minister of State in 1999. He passed away in 2007. The respected mother of  honourable State Minister  Ms Ramija Rouf Chowdhury is a housewife and a social worker. She is now acting as the Chairperson of Abdur Rouf Chowdhury Foundation and Abdur Rouf Chowdhury Asylum house for the  handicapped.

Mr Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury passed his SSC in 1984 and HSC in 1986 from Setabganj Pilot High School and Dinajpur Government College respectively. He obtained his Masters degree from the University of Dhaka in 1992 after completion of his graduation from Rajshahi University. He also completed Capston course successfully from National Defence College.

Mr Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury got involved in student politics at very early ages. After wrapping up his career in student politics as the Office Secretary of the central committee of Bangladesh Chattro League, he was elected as the Assistant Secretary of the central sub-committee of Bangladesh Awami League in the National Council held in 2002 and was appointed as the Special Assistant to the President of the Bangladesh Awami League H.E. Sheikh Hasina in 2007. In 2008, he was elected as the maiden Member of Parliament from his constituency Dinajpur-2 comprising two Upazilas named  Birol and Bochagonj. He has been discharging as the Organising Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League for the three consecutive terms since his election to this post in 2009. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for third time in 2018.

Mr Chowdhury performed his duty as the Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Member of the Committee on Public Undertakings in the 9th Parliament as well as the Member of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Railways in the 10th Parliament.

He was appointed as the Minister of State for the Ministry of Shipping in January 2019. He took various initiatives to implement the directives of the Honorable Prime Minister H.E Deshrotno Sheikh Hasina with a view to fulfilling the dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Honourable State Minister has been widely acclaimed from all walks of life for his relentless work and the Ministry of Shipping is marching forward illuminating the image of the government of Sheikh Hasina through its services and development works.

Being a Member of Parliament, he visited a number of countries on various occasions as the member of the delegation. He travelled to the USA to take part in the Leadership Programme in 2010. He went to China twice at the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Apart from these, he visited India, UK, Japan, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Qatar and some other countries as the delegate of the government, party and the parliament.

In personal life, Mr Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury is married to Ms Rasidun Ara Hasnin, a graduate from Dhaka University who obtained her MBA degree from Anglina Ruskin University of the UK. Currently, Mrs Chowdhury is acting as a member of the Trustee Board of a Private University in Bangladesh. Honourable State Minister is a proud father of a daughter named Tusardri who is studying in the UK.

Mr Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury is fond of sports and reading. He writes occasionally on social and political issues. He loves to serve the people and society as well.
